Laguna Beach Live! received a grant from the Festival of Arts Foundation for $2000. The grant will be used to support their Live! Music & Kids outreach program.

The grant supports enrichment programs like the concert performed last week for the children at the Boys and Girls Club by the Firebird Trio on their balalaika, a guitar-like instrument.

Playing music from Russia and Ukraine, Firebird also told animated folk stories and encouraged students to touch the traditional instruments. The ensemble later performed at the Laguna Art Museum.

Award Funds Art Supplies for Children

Art4kids, founded in 2001 by artist and art educator Pam Schader, has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Festival of Arts Foundation to continue cultivating art among children in distress in Laguna Beach.

“Children love drawing,” said Schader, and research shows art to be one of the most effective treatments for trauma.

The organization makes donations of art materials to Even Start, the preschool program at the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach; CSP Youth Shelter; Laguna Beach Community Clinic; and the Laguna Food Pantry.

Art4kids’ work has touched 50,000 children since its start.
