In a move to maintain first-class dance programming on the local stage, Laguna Dance Festival’s spring season April 14-17 will feature the world-renowned Complexions Contemporary Ballet and its founding artistic director, the popular Desmond Richardson.
Four different performances will include new material and repertory works, as well as combine ballet, contemporary dance, jazz and hip-hop, said Jodie Gates, the festival’s founding artistic director.
The New York Times named Richardson “one of the great modern dancers of his time.” He’s recently become a familiar face on national television for his appearances on “So You Think You Dance.”
No two programs will be the same, so patrons are encouraged to attend more than one performance to get the full flavor of this remarkable company, she said.
Performances take place for the first time at The Laguna Playhouse. A VIP-artists reception will be held after the evening performance April 16. Gates and select artists will also hold pre-show talks for ticket holders on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. and April 17 at 1 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at www.lagunadancefestival.org or at Laguna Playhouse: 949.497-2787.
