Trio Lights Up Jazz Winter Series

Singer and pianist Carol Welsman performs with her trio at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Laguna Beach Live! Jazz Wednesdays Winter Series at Hotel Laguna.

Doors open at 5 p.m. for sunset viewing with drinks and food available for purchase.  Cover charge is $12 online and $15 at the door. Reservations can be made at www.lagunabeachlive.org up until noon on the day of the concert.
Reservations are recommended for groups of three.

The winter series is every two weeks through April 11 featuring Dan Reckard, Joshua White, Jeff Hamilton and another group yet to be announced. Information line is 949.715-9713.

 

 

 

French Film for Valentine’s Week

 

The Laguna Beach Film Society airs “Queen of Hearts” on Thursday, Feb. 16, at South Coast Cinema, at 7 p.m.

 

Tickets are $15, $10 for students and free for members.

Concert Band Takes on Tubas 

 

The 70-piece Laguna Concert Band is returning to the Laguna Playhouse on Sunday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m.

 

Featuring world-renown tubist, Gene Pokorny of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as well as Disney voice actor, tubist and arranger Bob Joles, the concert will round out a full afternoon of music.

 

Linda Hughes will perform vocals. In front of the band will be master of ceremonies, Lona Ingwerson, music director/conductor Ed Peterson, and conductors Dr. Bill Nicholls and Pete Fournier.

Former Resident Returns for Book Signing

 

Laguna Beach Books will welcome Fran Blacketer, author of “You Can’t Kill a Dead Man,” published by Sunstone Press, on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 4 p.m.

 

Blacketer, a 20 year resident, was director of the Women’s Transitional Living Center and Saddleback and Cypress College teacher.

 

The event is free to the public at Laguna Beach Books, 1200 S. Coast Highway #105A.

 

 

Piano Trio Performs at Newport Library

The Newport Beach Library will present a musicale featuring The Elixir Piano Trio on Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Friends Meeting Room of the Newport Beach Central Library,1300 Irvine Ave., from 3 to 4 p.m.

 

The trio, comprised of violinist Samvel Chilingarian, pianist Lucy Nargizyan, and cellist Garik Terzian, will perform a traditional and modern repertoire with classical, folk and jazz influences.
