Museum Vibrates With Cello Concert

Laguna Beach Live! presents David Garrett in a solo cello concert at the Laguna Art Museum on Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m.

Garrett, a longtime member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, appears frequently as a recitalist, chamber musician, and soloist. His program ranges from Bach to O’Connor’s Appalachia Waltz.

Guest Musician Rolls the Stones

Visiting “The Friendship Show” on radio station KX 93.5 this Saturday, April 6 from 9 to 10 a.m. is Los Angeles-based folk singer-songwriter John Batdorf.

Along with musical partner James Lee Stanley, Batdorf will perform songs in studio off of his recently released album “Wood and Stones, The Second Coming,” an interpretation of classic Rolling Stones songs during the show hosted by Dawn Price and Mark Miller of Friendship Shelter.

Youths Perform Little Women

The Laguna Playhouse Youth Theatre presents “Little Women,” running from Friday, April 5 through Sunday, April 14 at Laguna Playhouse Moulton Theatre, 606 Laguna Canyon Dr.

The play is directed by Kelly Herman.

Show times are Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays at 1 and 5 p.m., and two mid-week matinees on Thursday and Friday, April 11 and 12 at 10 a.m.

Tickets range from $18 to $20 and can be purchased online at lagunaplayhouse.com, or by callin 949-497-2787, ext. 1.

The cast features young actors from the Laguna Beach and Orange County areas. The cast includes Grace McCarney as Jo, Michael Stancliff as Laurie, Kayla Oldfield as Meg, Luis Castilleja as Mr. Brooke, Syd Ames as Beth and Hannah Smith as Amy, Jennifer Pearce as Marmee, Charlie McClung as Mr. Laurence, Topher Mauerhan as Mr. March, Margaret VandenBerghe as Aunt March and Naomi Marden as Hannah Mullet. The ensemble includes: Aaron Canter, Rudy Buttlar, Nicole Doiron, Kaelin Davis, Troy Huyen, Sydney Miller, Shawna Yang and Ryan Zipstein.

 

Gala Honors Dancer Extraordinaire

The Laguna Dance Festival’s September performance season is set for Sept. 5-8 and includes two performances each by Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Parsons Contemporary Ballet, as well as pre-performance talks and master classes.

On Wednesday, June 19, dancer Desmond Richardson will lead a master class for dancers in Laguna Beach. Richardson, co-founder and co-artistic director of New York-based Complexions Contemporary Ballet and a performer and choreographer for television’s, “So You Think You Can Dance,” will be in town to attend “Visual Immersion” on June 20, the Laguna Dance Festival’s annual gala event at Seven Degrees, where he will be honored.
