Food Truck’s Chef Rolls Up

Chef Jason Quinn will demonstrate step-by-step some of his favorite recipes and share samples of his finished creations at the Festival of Arts Sunday, Aug. 11 from 1 – 2 p.m.

Quinn, who grew up in Irvine, is chef and co-owner of The Lime Truck as well as Playground & Playground 2.0 restaurants in downtown Santa Ana, where the menu changes daily.

“Chef Jason will surprise us with recipes using the freshest ingredients from the market on Sunday,” said Susan Davis, director of special events.

The event takes place in the Festival’s Art Center and is free with Festival admission.

 

Outdoor Concert to Tune Up

The Laguna Concert Band’s final summer-season concert will feature an array of soloists, beginning with 7-year-old Sydney Haik singing “The Star Spangled Banner.”

The band performs on the green at the Festival of Arts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, led by special guest conductor Jonathan Burke, president of Laguna College of Arts and Design. His son Alexander Burke, a film composer and vibes player, will also perform.

Winners of band scholarships, Jovan Majano and Dylan Del Pizzo-Howell, will be introduced. Also sharing vocal duties will be Linda Hughes and Lisa Morice.

The Blues Drops Anchor at Marine Room

Russian blues guitarist Sondro Eristavi, Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band Soul to Soul, and blues band Big Daddy Williams will perform at Laguna Beach’s Marine Room Tavern starting at 5 p.m. Aug. 10.

The so-called Blues & Booze Tour, sponsored by online music site B.D. McGee and the Orange County Blues Society, kicked off at The Surfin Cowboy in Capo Beach last weekend.

Tickets are $20 at the door and will include raffle tickets. Ten percent of proceeds benefit the society.

Jazz Quartet to Perform in Hotel Garden

Laguna Beach Live! presents The Gilbert Castellanos Quartet, at the Rose Garden in the Hotel Laguna Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m.

Gilbert Castellanos is a classically trained Latin jazz trumpeter who combines contemporary and classical jazz with Latin and hard bop influences.

Film Society Screens Side-splitting ‘Sideways’

“Sideways,” the film about buddies on a last adventure in the Santa Ynez wine country before one of them walks down the aisle, culminates the Laguna Beach Film Society’s Summer Comedy Series on  Thursday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $9 at Laguna’s South Coast Cinema and $7 presale at www.LagunaArtMuseum.org/LBFS .  Film with prescreening buffet and wine reception at 6 p.m. at Laguna Art Museum is $20, but free to film society members.

The Laws Family Joins Laguna’s Jazz Series

The Jazz on the Green concert series continues at the Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Rd. on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 1-3 p.m. with a special performance by The Laws Family & Friends, featuring Ronnie, Eloise and Debra, siblings of award-winning flutist and saxophonist Hubert Laws, Jr.
