The Laguna Beach girls’ 12U water polo team took first place in the South County San Diego Cup Water Polo Championship, held May 4-6.

A field of 23 boys and girls teams competed in one of the largest youth tournaments, a prelude to the Junior Olympics scheduled for Stanford in July.

Claire Turner earned MVP with a game saving backhand no-look shot against So Cal in the semi final.

Emerson Hensley and Ava Knepper took home first team honors.

Goalie Siena Jumani helped by repelling shots from the tough line up of competitors.

Presley Jones, Kara Carver, Sophia Umeda and the entire team helped contribute to goals and passing support to achieve the final 8-4 score against San Diego Shores.

“We are a team of friends with one goal in mind, being the best we can be and having fun doing it,” Siena said in a statement.
