Breaker’s 2018 Varsity will be selected late next week with tryouts on Aug. 10 and the 47th edition of the Varsity will compete in the 10th Annual Queens Court Tournament on Saturday, Aug. 11, through Sunday, Aug. 12. Laguna opens in pool play in the 48-team Varsity Division at the ACS in Anaheim facing Shadow Hills at 8 a.m. followed by San Jacinto about 10 a.m. and Torrance around noon.

Girls Volleyball will be the first Laguna high school sport to start the fall season, opening on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Calvary Chapel Santa Ana at 5:30 p.m. at the Eagle’s Gym. The remaining August contests before Labor Day weekend are as follows:

Thu 8-16         @ Dana Hills (6 p.m.)

Thu 8-23         Tesoro (5:30 p.m.)

Mon 8-27        San Clemente (5:30 p.m.)

Thu 8-30         @ Sage Hill

Breakers are coached by Shawn Patchell (100-53) in his second year since returning to the Breakers and his sixth overall with the school. Laguna was 20-8 last year but will be challenged by Newport Harbor in the new four-team Sunset Wave League this season as the Tars will try to snap the Breakers’ current 120-consecutive league match win streak.
