Newport tried to stay with the Breakers, but as others have found the Laguna defense will eventually wear them down. Breakers took a 4-3 advantage that became 12-3 by the final period. Bella Baldridge and Sophie Leggett each scored four goals with Baldridge leading in assists with three. Breakers led by Natalie Selin’s three steals racked up 12 thefts from the Sailors. Laguna has now won seven straight from the Tars.
This week Laguna was seeded first in the 20th Newport Holiday Cup looking for their third straight title and a So-Cal record seventh straight in-season tournament crown.
