Non-native arunda grass will soon to be removed from Aliso Creek as a result of a recent restoration grant.

The Laguna Canyon Foundation received a $1.1 million grant to restore 55-acres of Aliso Creek and coordinate a comprehensive restoration of the watershed beginning in September.

The foundation, in collaboration with OC Parks, OC Watersheds, OCTA and the Orange County Conservation Corps, applied for and was awarded an OCTA Measure M grant to restore a segment of the creek within Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park.

The restoration project will involve removing invasive species and re-vegetation of native plants.

The grant covers five years to ensure all invasive species are removed and the native habitat restored.
