Boys Basketball (23-3, 8-0)
Breakers closed out their regular season this past week and should enter the post season with a school record 25-3 mark, easily beating the 22-4 regular season mark of 1962 and 23-5 record in 2007. The full season record is 27-4 set 56 years ago.
Last week Godinez played a skillful defensive game holding the margin of victory down as the Laguna prevailed 46-31 over Godinez on Jan. 31 in Dugger Gym. Breakers honored their six outgoing seniors, playing them for most of the contest. Blake Burzell scored 21, Adam Armstrong added 11 followed by Grady Morgan with 5, Owen McMurray 4, and Charlie Rounaghi with 5.
On Friday, the Breakers took care of second place Costa Mesa with a 60-40 win at the Mustang Gym. Burzell had 23, Morgan 11, Nolan Naess 10, McMurray 6, Armstrong 6, and Rounaghi 4. Charlie Rounaghi was five steals away from breaking the career mark held by Chris Sirianni (1996-98) entering the final regular season week.
Playoff dates: Brackets released on Sunday, Feb. 11, about 2 p.m. First game will be at Laguna on Wednesday Feb. 14. Second round is Friday, Feb. 16.
Breakers are ranked this year in both the Register’s OC Top 10 (6) and the LA Times So Cal Top 25 (22).

Girls Basketball (0-23, 0-9)
Savannah Johnson and Madilyn Garwal each had 11 rebounds, but the Breakers were unable to keep up with Estancia on Monday, Feb. 5, at the Eagle Gym, falling 60-17. Last Thursday, Feb. 1, it was Costa Mesa prevailing 58-20 over the girls. The 2018 season concluded this past Wednesday with Saddleback.
