Laguna’s 82nd basketball season opened this past Tuesday, Dec. 1, as Newport Harbor rolled past Laguna 74-51 in the opening contest of the Godinez tournament held at Loara High School in Anaheim. The Tars started slowly but ended with a torrid run in the final period.
Blake Burzell continues to be the spark for Laguna scoring 23 points with Charlie Rounaghi adding 13, Isaac Wulff 9, Owen McMurray 3 and Darin Richardson 3. Breakers played site host Loara on Wednesday, Dec. 2, with tournament playoffs concluding this Saturday, Dec. 5. Next week Laguna has a pair of non-league games on the road at Dana Hills on 12-9 and Irvine on 12-11. Next tournament begins Dec. 14 with Westminster.

Girls were in the Corona del Mar tournament this week to open the season. Complete results next week. Breakers enter another tournament Monday, Dec. 7 at Ocean View.
