Boys Basketball (16-14)
Breakers were seeded 14th in the 2015 D-4AA playoffs and opened their run with a 71-57 win over Salesian on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Dugger Gym. Samiar Tehrani scored 12 key points while Blake Burzell hit for 21, Isaac Wulff added 15, Darin Richardson 12. The win advanced Laguna to face the third-ranked ranked Chaminade in West Hills on Friday, Feb. 20, where the Eagles proved their rating was no myth as they raced past Laguna 72-53. Burzell scored 21 to finish Laguna’s 80th basketball season with 539 points (ranks eighth all-time on Laguna’s season list) and 49 three-point baskets (ranks 17th). His marks for a freshman including his 10 scoring average are school records for a player on varsity.
Girls Basketball (15-12)
Harvard Westlake used a punishing press to rout Laguna 70-34 last Saturday, Feb. 21, at Dugger Gym. Jackie Cenan scored 18 points and Alexandra Lewis added 14 in the effort. The entire squad returns next season and likely will battle the two-time defending league champ Estancia for the 2016 crown.
