Georgia Andersen and her children Stefan and Katie established the Claes Andersen Hospitality Scholarship Fund at the Laguna Beach Community Foundation, the foundation announced this week.

The fund honors Mr. Andersen’s love for Laguna Beach and the hospitality industry, said Georgia Andersen, who has succeeded her late husband as owner of the historic Hotel Laguna.

“This is our way of continuing to give back to the community and encourage students to enter the hospitality field,” said Mrs. Andersen, also one of the foundation’s outreach ambassadors.

Distributions from the fund will be made to the Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Foundation or similar entities or educational institutions, said a foundation statement.

Executive Director Darrcy Loveland said the foundation received $111,000 in contributions last year and now stands at $1.6 million in assets. This includes seven donor advised funds such as the Andersen fund, she said, where donors retain authority to select beneficiaries for income generated annually by their fund.

The public can also honor Claes Andersen with a donation to his fund. Checks made out to “LBCF/Claes Andersen Hospitality Scholarship Fund” can be sent to the Foundation at P.O. Box 1628, Laguna Beach, CA 92652. For additional information, contact the Laguna Beach Community Foundation at 949-715-8223.
