A mindful, interfaith “tribe” intent on creating more peace, compassion and loving kindness in their lives and in the world will gather at 7 p.m.
on Monday, Sept. 24 in downtown Laguna Beach at Tibetan Handicrafts, 384 Forest Ave., Suite 5.

Inspiration for the “All-1-Tribe Laguna Meditation Circle” came from witnessing the pilgrimages that people of all faiths and ages made to Laguna’s Neighborhood Congregational Church over two successive years to view groups of Tibetan monks making mandalas from grains of sand, endeavoring to plant seeds of peace and compassion. The visiting monks have returned and will bless the groups’ first meeting this Monday.

Meeting every second and fourth Monday of the month, this mindfulness “tribe” will practice sitting and walking meditation, discuss the teachings of the world’s great spiritual leaders and thinkers, including Buddha, Rumi and Christ, and will sing together. The group also offers provides an opportunity for participants to practice mindfulness-based, stress reduction skills.

Gatherings will be facilitated by local resident Michele McCormick, Ph.D., who has studied with renowned Buddhist teachers Jack Kornfield, Thich Nhat Hanh and Trudy Goodman. As an ordained interfaith minister, McCormick has had a speaking ministry in the churches of Orange County since the 1990s. As a psychologist, she currently practices mindfulness-based psychotherapy in Newport Beach.

For more information, contact McCormick at 949 500-9569 or Pam Wicks at 949 573-7104.
