Jazz and blues legend Barbara Morrison performs in town Wednesday, April 27, and proceeds will support Live! Music & Kids, a free music education program offered to children at the Boys & Girls Club and Laguna schools by Laguna Beach Live!

The veteran recording artist’s melodic voice spans two-and-a-half-octaves.

The concert will take place from 6-8 p.m., at Seven Degrees, 891 Laguna Canyon Road.

Tickets are $35 online and a special VIP package can be purchased for $100, which includes premier seating, a visit with the artist and a signed CD.

Arts Collaborators Open Edgefest

Cal State Fullerton’s Edgefest hosts concerts and workshops Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16, featuring baritone Nicholas Isherwood, Grammy-nominated composer-pianist Vijay Iyer, respectively, as well as a world premier by Laguna’s own Pam Madsen.

Concerts are at 8 p.m. both nights in Meng Concert Hall; workshops are at 12 and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16.

Madsen says this is the fourth edition of The Electric Voice, where music studios join forces to present world premieres of pieces for voice, electronics and video, enabling the pieces to be performed multiple times in a year.

Chorale Performers Opt for a Cabaret

An ensemble of Pacific Chorale members will perform Broadway show tunes at the Segerstrom Center’s Samueli Theater Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and 17 at 8 and 5:30 p.m., respectively

Curtain Goes up on Playhouse Season

Laguna Playhouse plans six productions in the next 12 months, which Artistic Director Ann. E Wareham describes as “our most diverse, wildly entertaining and thrilling” season.

The first show opens July 6 with “The Music of Elvis Presley.” Coming months performances include “Billy & Ray,” “Chapatti,” “Hersey Felder is Tchaikovsky,” the premiere of “King of the Road: The Roger Miller Story,” and “The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey.”

Season subscriptions range from $279 to $351 and single tickets will range from $48 – $66. The box office: 949 497-2787.
