JV Girls Finish 2nd at OC Championships

The Division 4 Laguna Beach girls’ JV cross country team finished second out of 14 teams behind Division 1 Northwood of Irvine at the Orange County Championships on Friday, Oct. 18 at Irvine Regional Park.

Senior Monica White led the all-junior JV team, finishing third overall out of 17 runners with a time of 20:43 over the three-mile course. The other four scorers for Laguna were Annie Brown (21:23, ninth), Paige Vitolo (22:26, 22nd), Ariel Carlson (22:35, 24th), and Rachel Hunter (22:46, 28th).

Julia Nasiell (22:57, 34th) and Grace Tempest (22:58, 35th) finished sixth and seventh for Laguna.

Girls Coach Steve Lalim gave his top tier varsity runners the week off after an impressive performance at the Clovis Invitational. His B squad made a strong showing, finishing fifth out of 17 teams.

Senior Brielle Budroe led the varsity team, finishing 16th overall out of 130 runners with a time of 20:04. The other four scorers for Laguna were sophomores Taylor Alvarez (20:31, 30th), Allison Konno (20:40, 34th) and Lauryn Alvarez (20:42, 38), and senior Audrey Rodriguez (20:54, 47th).

Juniors Solveig Erngren (21:20, 56th) and Livie Clark (21:40, 64th) finished sixth and seventh for the Breakers.

The all-freshman team, led by Sabrina Flagstead, finished 12th out of 23 teams in the frosh/soph race. Her time of 21:53 put her in 30th overall out of 280 runners. The other four scorers for Laguna were Elie Glade (22:58, 59th), Ana Kelly (23:06, 64th), Lania Paul (24:15, 84th) and Claire Barnett (25:14, 105th).

Sidney Harris (25:57, 113th) and Sidney Kimball (26:05, 115th) finished sixth and seventh for the Breakers.

 

Boys Results

Jake Mangus led the boys freshman team to a solid sixth place finish out of 20 teams. His time of 18:46 put him 19th overall out of 223 runners. The rest of the scoring five for Laguna were Sam Dameshek (19:05, 30th), Ray Hunter (19:20, 39th), Liam Duncan (19:33, 50th) and Tyler Jackson (19:48, 64th).

Ayrton Svenson (20:16, 6th) and Clancy Copper (20:16, 7th) led a second tier of Breaker freshmen to a second place finish among eight Group B teams. William Kramer (20:26, 10th), Lucas Toro (20:34, 13th), Thomas Gergory (20:36, 14th), Liam Yates (21:19, 26th) and Ryan Marx (21:33, 29th) completed the squad.

The sophomore boys took home eighth place out of 17 teams. They were led by Carter Fraser, who ran a time of 17:56 to finish 16th overall out of 180 runners.

The other four scorers for Laguna were Tim Andrews (18:22, 29th), Zach Spitz (18:52, 45th), Ryan Gee (18:54, 46th) and Daniel Peterson (20:30, 81st). Dean Hodes (22:30, 101st) and Troy Blaser (24:50, 109th) finished sixth and seventh.

Boys Coach Scott Wittkop entered only two varsity runners, giving the rest of his squad the week off after the Clovis Invite.

Senior Nathan Sweet finished with a time 18:14 to place 92nd out of 149 varsity runners. Sophomore Charles Dube finished with a time of 22:33.
