Young Artists Receive Double Kudos


School officials recognized young artists, winners in the city’s palette exhibition, this week at their board meeting.


The week before, the group earned the adulation of the City Council.


The city’s Arts Commission selected 14 designs of 180 submissions to the palette exhibition, on display along with previous years winners, at City Hall throughout December.


The selected artists in 2011 are Katie Baker, 4, Meghan Reardon, 5, Ashley Abrahams, 7, Clara Becker, 8, Kathryn Callahan, 8, Luca De Mari, 8, Elsa Dahle, 9, Joey Risi, 9, Emily Baker, 11, Katie Glavinovich, 12, Lucas Toro, 12, Nathan Hunt, 13, and Maryellie Jacquez, 16.




Pirates Return to Treasure Island


The Geffen Playhouse Story Pirates, which showcase creative student writing  performed by professional comedians and improvisers, will offer a special performance  Saturday, Dec. 17 from 2 to 3 p.m., at Montage Laguna Beach.

A collection of sketches and songs adapted from stories written by elementary students, Story Pirates will delight and surprise with puppets, costumes and antics, all the while motivating children to be creative. Story topics run the gamut, from kung fu ninja babies fighting crime, to hot dog superheroes and space bats.
