La Playa Center will celebrate Dia de Reyes, Three Kings Day, the 12th day after Christmas when the Magi arrived bearing gifts for baby Jesus and the traditional day for Mexican children to receive presents.
La Playa has celebrated this day in years past, but this year marks the first time when presents will be presented thanks to the generosity of local residents Gary and Soheyla Boison. La Playa Center is an ESL school for adults with accompanying childcare located at the Boys and Girls Club. At the Jan. 5 celebration, children and their parents will eat a rosca de reyes, a sweet wreath-shaped bread with candied fruit on top and a figurine of a baby Jesus baked inside. The children will then receive presents thanks to the Boisons.
