The Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary Club has been awarded a $60,210 Rotary International Grant to supply clean water to a village where hundreds of widows and their children have migrated.
The drinking water project for the village of Kapurdhunga, home primarily to single women, as widows are called in Nepal, will eliminate the need for the women to walk over for an hour several times a day to fetch water.
Jill Fabricant, international service chairwoman of the Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary Club, is coordinating the grant in partnership with the South Patan Rotary Club in Kathmandu.
“I will be coordinating the work for the grant and the rotary club in South Patan will be overseeing the repair of the reservoir and the building of the sanitation station and bringing water to the households,” Fabricant wrote in an email.
