A power outage impacted 2,450 Laguna Beach residents near Oak and Catalina streets on Friday, according to a Nixle alert.

The outage started around 10:14 a.m. and power was restored to the vast majority of impacted customers by 4 p.m. Friday, Southern California Edison reports. Repairs were underway by 1:07 p.m. About 30 customers were expected to be without power until 9 p.m. The stated cause was “equipment problems.”

Laguna Beach firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting a utility pole fire on Catalina Street between Anita and Oak streets on Friday morning. Video recorded by a resident shows a fire burning the top of the utility pole.

Power was briefly out in the 900 block of Glenneyre Street and back on before 12:30 p.m.

This is the latest in a string of outages stretching back to April 1.

An Edison representative notified the California Public Utilities Commission that its grid experienced “circuit activity” in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park at 2:45 p.m. on May 11. This email was sent shortly after the initial 911 call reporting a vegetation fire near the South Orange County Wastewater Coastal Treatment. The cause of the Coastal Fire remains under investigation.

According to the SCE Distribution Resources Plan portal, the neighborhood that went dark Friday is on a separate circuit from the one identified in the May 11 public utility notice.
