Laguna Gymnast Lands First in Vegas Competition

Petite but powerful fifth-grade gymnast Giana Costa grabbed first place when she competed at her first level-six event at the 13th annual International Lady Luck Nastia Liukin Invitational in Las Vegas on Jan. 20. Approximately 1,800 elite female gymnasts from 31 states, as well as Australia, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico converged to show off their athletic prowess at the event.

Costa’s all-around score of 37.925 secured her the top spot, with a first place score of 9.6 on vault, a first place score of 9.45 on beam, a second place score of 9.55 on floor, and a second place score of 9.325 on bars.

Costa attends Top of the World Elementary School and works out five days a week at Azarian Gymnastics in Aliso Viejo, coached by Perry Davies, Vanessa Gonzales, Ivan Nguyen, and Erika Purtell.
