Amar Bhatia, a junior at Laguna Beach High School, and his teammate, Noah Cours, were finalists and placed sixth overall at the U.S. Rowing Youth Nationals held in Sarasota, Florida, June 6-9.

The team represented Newport Seabase Rowing in the Lightweight Men’s Youth Doubles and eliminated top teams from across the nation in timed trials and semi-finals over the course of the week. The #6 national ranking is the highest ever for Newport Seabase in this division.

“I’m very proud of the boys and can’t wait to see them bring this experience back with them to lead the program forward,” said Newport Men’s Varsity coach James Long-Lerno.

  1. Awesome!!!! Keep it up boys! Noah Cours’ sister is a stand out rower who was whisked off to Stanford to row-by virtue of athleticism and grades, not payola… Cheers to these gents so they may have a bright future on and off the water.
