The Laguna Beach Independent was honored Thursday as the recipient of two awards from the Orange County Press Club.

The 2021 Excellence in Journalism Awards represents the best work by Orange County journalists from the unprecedented news year that was 2020. Members of fellow press clubs from across the nation annually judge the entries. The awards were announced via Facebook Live.

Managing editor Daniel Langhorne received second place in the public affairs reporting category for his story on OC Parks probe into coastal access at Table Rock Beach after swimmers died last year.

Columnist Mark Crantz received third place in the Marjorie Freeman Award for Best Humorous Story for his Pet Peeves column “Applesauced.” This is the second consecutive year Crantz has placed in the category.

Newport Beach Indy Music Writer Simone Goldstone was also honored to win Third Place in the Orange County Press Club 2021 Journalism Awards for her review of the Queen Nation concert at the OC Fairgrounds in the fall of 2020.
