Boys Volleyball Scores Home Court Victories

Breakers rallied to defeat the Dana Hills Dophins in five sets this past Tuesday at Dugger Gym. #14 Andrew Reavis had 30 kills, and #12 Geste Bianchi had 22. Laguna leads the all-time series 38-11.

After their Ski-Week break, Laguna picked up a pair of home court victories. On Thursday, Feb. 28, the Breakers rolled past Laguna Hills (6-2) 25-22, 25-15, 25-23 with Geste Bianchi scoring 14 kills, while Andrew Reavis added 13 kills and 12 digs in the effort. Breakers lead the series with the Hawks 41-2. On Tuesday, the squad rallied to beat Dana Hills 19-25, 25-21, 18-25, 27-25, 15-11 having to overcome the loss of popular middle Milo Zegowitz, who went down late in the second set to a serious ankle sprain. It took Laguna well into set four to find the right combination of players without a replacement middle on the bench to make up the loss. Down 23-19, the squad caught fire after a cross-court kill by Bianchi to go on a 7-2 run to take the set and force a deciding game. Bianchi continued to dominate, making seven kills on nine attempts to deliver the victory. Earlier in the match it was Andrew Reavis who recorded 30 kills for the evening that kept the Breakers alive for their final run. The total was the fifth most recorded in a rally era match by a Laguna player.

Breakers are currently ranked #18 in CIF and traveled this past Thursday to #16 San Clemente. Next Wednesday they travel to #17 Santa Margarita. Laguna returns to Dugger next Friday, March 15, when they host CIF #10 Edison.

The 34th Annual Alumni game is slated for Friday, April 26, at Dugger Gym and will include Senior Night and a tribute to honor the late Rolf Engen, who was instrumental in the success of the program in the 1970s.

Laguna dodged the weather to take three out of their past four matches, starting with a 11-7 win over Mission Viejo on Feb. 27, followed by a tough 10-8 loss on Feb. 28 to St. Margaret’s. Breakers closed out their non-Sunset competition with a 12-6 win over Laguna Hills on March 1 and a 10-8 win over San Juan Hills on March 4.
