The high school’s surf team won the Scholastic Surf Series competition at San Clemente Pier this past Sunday, Jan. 12.
Nearly the entire team advanced into the individual competition against Point Loma High School in three-foot swells. Conditions deteriorated as the day wore on with a minus tide.
At the close, three Laguna Beach surfers survived to the individual finals; Ryan Meisberger finished third overall in the bodyboard division, Marlee Grosher took fifth in the girls’ longboard, and Cayla Henderson in her first final finished sixth.
In the boys’ shortboard, Cameron DePyffer, Dylan Davis, Tobie Grierson, Zach Levine, and Cam Zuziak did well, advancing out of the first round.
In longboard, Wesley Eagleton earned a spot in the semi-final while Ryan Meisberger won his first heat.
In the girls’ short board, Coco Putnam surfed strong and advanced through several heats, just shy of the final.
The team surfs next in Oceanside on Feb. 9.
