Letter: Build a New Digester

My family first came to Laguna in 1903, and I am a lifetime resident. Inmy opinion, the iconic Laguna buildings are the Hotel Laguna, theLifeguard Tower on Main Beach, the Old Victor Hugo/Las Brisas building, the nearby gazebo in Heisler Park, and the digester.

Take detailedphotographs, demo it, and build a brand new digester. Then fund and giveit to the Historical Society for a new home so they can leave theircramped and dilapidated one on Ocean Avenue. They can fill the interiorwalls with their photos and memorabilia from the 1800s to the present.I am sure other community members will come forward to contribute theirmemorabilia and photos as well.

  1. It might surprise people that Joe and I agreed on many things including the restoration of the clock on Forest Avenue. His characterization of Laguna’s iconic buildings is right on. Not sure about the demo and rebuild but agree that the Historical Society would benefit greatly from a re-vitalized building. Preserve Laguna!

  2. Great idea Joe!
Better to “Demo” & replace than try to upgrade a structural comprised building if the city budget has the resources. Bathrooms & greet and meet Historical Society information center would be a great asset to the community! So the question is does the City of Laguna Beach have the $$$
