Letter: Candidates: What are They Really About?

I’ve been taking some time to learn about the candidates, met with some of them, saw some of them speak at the forums and wondered how or why they are running, what are their reasons, their positions, and what backgrounds do they have to be effective, finding out what is real or fake news.

Should we require the minimum from our city council candidates? Shouldn’t they not need this job? They should be successful and then run for office to make our city better, from their successful experience in life.

Do they have degrees, work experience, their resumes and websites fact checked? Background check? After all, these candidates will be managing millions of our dollars – are they qualified?

I went onto Judie Mancuso’s site and started to ask some of these questions. Here are the holes found:

Founder / CEO / President, Social Compassion in Legislation, 2007 – Present (Social Compassion in Legislation is a 501(c)(4) organization) The last tax return was in 2012, where has the money gone since then? Is this even legal? 2012 shows $6,880 in revenue.

Founder / CEO / President, California Spay and Neuter License Plate Fund, Inc., 2010 – Present (501(c)(3) company). Last tax return was in 2014 with $1,468 in revenue.

Positions held: Software Development Manager, Systems Manager, Business Systems Project Manager, Independent Consultant. Various Companies and Industries 1983-2003. Does not list one company as a reference. Twenty years is a long time to do this type of business.

Her resume lists Belleville Area College ending in 1984. This is a two-year community college yet her resume states that she started working in the IT field in 1983.

How is she now earning a living? Should we be worried that someone who doesn’t earn a living is running for city council?

Here’s another area of mystery: Board Member, Veterinary Medical Board, 2010 – Present. Appointed by Assembly Speaker John Perez as a public member to the California Veterinary Medical Board (VMB) in 2010 with a reappointment for a second and final four-year term from 2014-2018. She is not a vet.

Judie doesn’t seem to have a degree, runs two nonprofits but the money for the last 4-6 years is unaccounted for, worked for 20 years in IT, but doesn’t state where.

We need to know more about Judie Mancuso before considering voting for her.

  1. Re-title the letter: Mancuso: what is she really about? Try questioning all candidates as the title would imply. Those who care, care not for misleading titles, but for lasting results. Lasting results of the quality that my grandparent’s generation expected would be preferable.
