Laguna Beach Little League’s opening season begins at 6 p.m. tonight, Friday, Feb. 27, at Riddle Field.

The ceremony kicks off with the league’s two oldest sponsors, VFW and Rotary Club, raising our nation’s flag.

AA A ballplayer Zade Harrison will lead the national anthem. Second in the ceremonial line-up is Clyde Wright, an ex-MLB player and All-Star, who will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Division Managers Lee Novick of VFW, and Coby Naess of Rotary, will face off for the first time this season with their intermediate team players.

The snack bar will be serving Riddle burgers & dogs. Opening day specials will include Mama Loughlin’s famous chicken and New England clam chowder. Popcorn will be free all night.

Snack bar chair Amy Neufeld invites neighbors, managers, supporters and sponsors to come out and attend the ceremony, game and have dinner with the league.

Little League expects 400 players on the field this season, ranging in age from 4 to 14. Last year, Riddle Field underwent renovation thanks to support from former Little League parent Mark Christy and the Angels Organization.

Baseball fans can catch a game every weekday during the season at 4:30 and 6:45 and on Saturdays at 10, 12:30 and 4.
