A black and white panoramic image of sand dunes in Death Valley National Park by Laguna Beach photographer Cheyne Walls’ recently received a second place award by the Wildling Museum in Solvang.

The juried exhibit “Celebrating the National Parks of California” honors the centennial of the National Park Service and features artwork inspired by the nine national parks in the state.

Walls’ limited edition photograph “Unforgiving” was selected from over 165 entries from around the country. Work by the photographer is currently displayed at the Laguna Beach Art-a-Fair, where Walls is a second year exhibitor.

“When creating images, choosing an aspect ratio is an integral part of composition,” said exhibit juror and professional photographer Marc Muench. “Cheyne made a great choice when creating this scene of the dunes in Death Valley, as it made the vast space of this unique park the subject, then he dressed it up with great light and printing.” The national park exhibit in Solvang runs through Oct. 3.

“Unforgiving” as well as other work by Walls can be found in “Miles from Los Angeles,” which features over 120 photographs from locations all over the western United States. It also is available at Art-A-Fair, open daily through Aug. 28. Walls plans a local book signing later in the month.

Walls now specializes in panoramic images of the Northern American landscape. Previously, he worked as an advertising and editorial photographer in the auto industry, where he traveled extensively for photo shoots and became enamored of diverse landscapes. He received a degree from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Ventura, Calif.
