Local Rosalind Russel’s adopted son, Rabin, left, who assists her mission in Nepal. A film about her goat-giving, school building and literacy efforts will be shown Thursday in a Film Society screening.

The Laguna Beach Film Society screens a series of shorts at 7 p.m. Aug. 18 at South Coast Cinema and many special guests and filmmakers will be on hand.

Laguna Beach locals play a role in some of the films.

            The line up includes “Abre Tus,” by Samantha Wilson, an animated film about a family of birds in the jungles of Mexico;

“Scofflans,” by local Galen Thorne, a bank robber takes chances while trying to make a better life for his wife and their future;

“Board Room,” by Maggie Frank, about two retired executives’ weekly board meetings at Doheny Beach who intend to keep surfing until the kids take the car keys away;

“Incest The Musical,” by Grant Reed and Kai de Mello Folson, about the class president and valedictorian, who seem a perfect pair, except they’re also siblings;

“Wash Me,” by Winston Tao, a police officer struggles with the complexities of his path;

“R Star Foundation Project in Nepal,” by Rob McClendon, the inspired, miraculous odyssey of Laguna local Rosalind Russell in Nepal, one of the world’s poorest countries.

The event is free to all members of the Laguna Beach Film Society. Tickets are $20 each for 6 p.m. prescreening and may be purchased by non-members at the Wells Fargo Bank Community room.

Tickets of $15 for the screening only may be purchased at the box office. For more info, call 949-494-8971, Ext. 201 www.lagunaartmuseum.org or email  [email protected]  or [email protected].
