High energy, action, and a rollercoaster of emotions and upsets filled out the final day of the Pro Beach Volleyball National Championship at the Hermosa Beach Open on Sunday, Sept. 25.
On match point, Manhattan Beach Open champs Whitney Pavlik (Laguna Beach) and Jenny Kropp (Hollyglen) were unable to reclaim their title, defeated by No. 1 seeded team April Ross (Costa Mesa) and Jen Kessy (Laguna Beach) in two sets, 21-12 and 21-16.
No. 4 seeded Casey Jennings (Manhattan Beach) and Pedro Salgado (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) defeated No. 1 Sean Rosenthal (Hermosa Beach) and his partner Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) in an intense final that ended 21-18 and 21-17.
Both teams won the national championship title, trophy and prize money.
