On Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, God reclaimed an angel after a courageous battle against cancer. Maureen (Mauri) Rose Clarke Olsen, 47, of Laguna Beach, passed away with her family by her side.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 2200 San Joaquin Hills Rd., Newport Beach.
Mauri was born in Santa Barbara on June 29, 1966. She graduated from San Marcos High School and continued on to receive a bachelor’s of arts degree in communications from UCLA.
She married Jeffrey K. Olsen on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 1996; they were married 16 years.
The joy of Olsen’s life was being with her son Erik and husband Jeff. Olsen was also a gifted and talented vocalist and musician. She lit up the room with her smile and had the ability to comfort anyone with her beautiful voice and tremendous heart. She was a true inspiration and an angel we were all grateful to have in our lives. She will be missed terribly, but will remain in our hearts forever.
Olsen is survived by her 9-year-old son Erik Clarke Olsen, and her husband Jeffrey K. Olsen; her mother, Shirley Clarke; her brother, John Clarke; and her sisters Mary Dufek, Patricia Hurst, Kathleen Zumpone, and Crissi Clarke; her nieces and nephews, and her friends and family.
Olsen is preceded in death by her father Wilfred Joseph Clarke, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Circle 1000, a part of the Hoag Family Cancer Institute.
Mauri, your light burned brightly and for too short a time. I am among your many friends who will miss your unstinting kindness and concern for others.
I’m writing this directly to you since I assume they have free WiFi in heaven – don’t they? I especially liked that you always laughed at my dumb jokes. You were one of the most thoughtful, sweet people I have ever had the pleasure to call a friend. I will forever treasure my “Tuesdays with Mauri.”
