Kenneth McFarland, chief executive officer of Mission Hospital, will leave his post effective Feb. 5. McFarland has been with Mission Hospital for 18 years and served as chief executive since 2011.

The combined 509-bed facility with campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach is south Orange County’s only regional trauma center. Mission is one of three hospitals owned and operated by St. Joseph Health System in the county, including St. Joseph’s in Orange and St. Jude in Fullerton.

“We tripled the footprint of our emergency department, doubled our inpatient capacity with the addition of a new patient tower and opened the …Neuroscience & Spine Institute,” McFarland said in a statement, noting community support contributed $200 million in the last decade to Mission.

McFarland is leaving to pursue new unspecified career opportunities, the statement said.
