A Musical Blast From the Past

The Laguna Playhouse presents the world premiere of “The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns,” a pop musical period-piece by playwright Roger Bean that opened this week and runs through Aug. 12.

The show focuses on a group of four girls as they graduate from high school.  The play features song from the ‘50s and ‘60s, including “River Deep, Mountain High,” “Dedicated To The One I Love”, “Rockin’Robin” and over 20 others.

The cast includes Misty Cotton, Jenna Coker-Jones, Bets Malone, and Lowe Taylor.

The band is rounded out with Eric Heinly on drums, Jack Majdecki on guitar and Alby Potts on keyboard.

“The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns” is written and directed by Roger Bean with choreography by Roger Castellano and musical arrangements by Michael Borth,  scenic design by Michael Carnahan, costume design by Bobby Pearce, and sound design by Laguna Playhouse’s own Corinne Carrillo.

Tickets range from $30-$70. Show times are Tuesday – Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m., and Thursday matinees July 5, 19 and 26 and Aug. 9 at 2 p.m.
