As part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project, Cassidy Kelly of Laguna Beach troop 789 has launched “Operation Baby Shower,” for which she will collect donations of baby shower items such as infant diapers, new diaper bags, clothes and toys during the Patriot’s Day Parade from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 5.

She’s setting up a table in front of the Laguna Beach County Water District, 306 Third Street, near the parade’s end.

The purpose of Cassidy’s project is to support military families during deployment by collecting items to donate to a baby shower in June for Marine wives whose babies will be born while their husbands are in Afghanistan. The baby shower will be held at Camp Pendleton, and invitees will be determined by the family readiness officer of the 1st of the 11th Marines, who have been adopted by the City of San Juan Capistrano. Cassidy is a member of the city’s host committee for their adopted Marines.
