Tan for a Cause
Unique Tan Laguna Beach, 1100 S. Coast Highway, is partnering with “OC Man of the Year 2011” Ben Medina, to host an event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, with all of the day’s proceeds benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Stop in and get a tan for a cause, or purchase raffle tickets for only $1 each.
They hope to raise awareness about the LLS, whose mission is to find a cure for cancer and to assist local patients and families as they battle these diseases.

Church Hosts Lenten Discussions
The Laguna Presbyterian Church is forming several new small discussion groups that will meet for a series of five weekly meetings throughout Lent, March 13-April 17.
The groups will talk about selected portions of the Gospel of Mark, which will also be the topic of each Sunday sermon given during the same period.

Seniors Host Legacy Ball
Laguna Beach Seniors’ fifth annual Legacy Ball will be held at The Resort at Pelican Hill on Friday, March 25, beginning at 6 p.m. Former City Manager Ken Frank will be honored as the 2011 Legacy Award recipient for 31 years of service, which included completion of the Community and Susi Q Senior Center.
Honorary chairs for the event are long-time Laguna Beach residents, Kelly and Michelle Boyd. Entertainment will be provided by the South Coast Swing band and No Square Theater singers. The attire is “vintage formal.”

Open House at Boys & Girls Club
The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach will host an Open House and Photo Exhibit from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on March 31. Everyone in the community is invited to stop by the Main Branch to check out the photos and to see the club’s award-winning youth development programs in action, and how much fun the kids have.
For over 59 years the club has been providing a positive place for our community’s young people and is now the largest youth development agency in our area, serving over 200 children daily and offering 30 programs to help them achieve academic success, increase creativity, make healthy lifestyle choices and gain character and leadership skills.

Foundation Accepts Grant Applications
AAUW Laguna Beach Foundation invites local non-profit organizations to submit an application for grants from $200 to $1,000 that address needs related to AAUW’s mission.
Successful applicants must agree to submit a report documenting outcomes achieved through this funding. The deadline to apply is April 30, 2011.
Last year, 14 individual scholarships for girls and women were awarded as well as community grants totaling $20,000.

CHOC Follies Benefit from Laguna Talent
Laguna Beach residents Marilyn Brumley and Heidi Miller will join nearly 100 business, civic and society leaders from around the county for the March 31 CHOC Follies XIV, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Follies.”
The benefit has raised $5 million for Children’s Hospital of Orange County since its inception in 1998.
Miller, a former gymnastics and bodybuilding champion and owner of Tight Assets clothing boutiques, returns for her 10th year as a cast member. Laguna Beach resident Marilyn Brumley also joins the cast.
Proceeds will support a radiology waiting room in CHOC Children’s new patient care tower.

Woman’s Circle Offers Hope and Support
Beginning on Sunday, May 1, the Neighborhood Congregational Church will host a weekly Woman’s Circle to provide ladies 18 years and older with a sacred, confidential space where they can have a sense of belonging, acceptance and validation while learning that one has to live peacefully and responsibly with one’s own past and the consequences of one’s positive or negative behavioral patterns thereof.
Donna LeClair will preside over the 90-minute circle, to begin at 7 p.m. at Bridge Hall, 340 St. Ann’s Drive, and Pam Wicks will open and close the meeting on the piano with the inspiring hymn, “It’s In Everyone of Us To Be Wise.” After opening, they will recognize the experience and feelings of several ladies who have agreed to share their story, before opening the floor to brief insight from the supporting audience.
This circle is being formed on the premise that one woman can be inspired and encouraged by another who has overcome similar problems, releasing them from feelings of shame and guilt, therefore allowing a greater level of self-awareness and esteem.
