A homeless man from Oklahoma suffered severe injuries last Saturday, Nov. 3, when struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Coast Highway outside of a crosswalk near Laguna Beach’s Three Arch Bay, police said Monday.

The injured person, who was not further identified, was transported to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo with moderate to severe injuries, Sgt. Louise Callus said. His wife told police he was attempting to get a cigarette from someone on the opposite side of the road, she said.

The elderly northbound driver from Illinois, who lives part-time in Dana Point, did not see the pedestrian and was not charged in the 7:07 p.m. incident. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be involved, she said.
