Firefights Move Up the Ladder
Firefighters Brian Adams, Forrestt Lazicki and James Lin, who joined the department last month, were introduced to the community during a badge pinning ceremony this week.
Seven other members of the department received promotions. They included Kurt Bladergroen, Danny Kalscheuer and Bryan Sarjeant, moved up to fire engineer; Brent Buccola, Chris Ornelas, and Matt Rolfe, promoted to the rank of firefighter; and Zack De John, activated as a paramedic.
Also noted was the retirement of fire engineer Jeff Priest, a 26-year department veteran.
New Dentist Takes Charge
Dentist Adam Vaghari invites the public to a 3:30 p.m. Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception Friday July 11, at his dental practice, 31655 Coast Highway.
Vaghari has assumed ownership of the dental practice of Dr. Joe Baker, who will stay involved.
There will be drawings for whitening services and toothbrushes.
Methodists Welcome a New Minister
The new leader at Laguna Beach United Methodist Church, Rev. Mandy Sloan Flemming, delivers her first sermon Sunday, July 6 at 10 a.m.
Pastor Flemming, whose last post was in Atlanta, officially started this week, in time to be involved in the church’s Vacation Bible School, which starts Monday, July 7.
Rev. Mary Scifres took on UMC’s pastoral responsibilities on an interim basis on March 3 while previous minister, Rev. Doug Williams, took a leave prior to another appointment.

Laguna’s HIP district, a shopping area between Thalia Street and Bluebird Canyon Road, is enticing shoppers to jump on the trolley and shop for sales and deals along South Coast Highway.
