Able Joins Food Pantry Board
The Laguna Food Pantry voted to elect Gregg Abel to its board of directors.
Abel is the owner and president of Gregg Abel Construction and Design in Laguna Beach.
He designed the building that houses the nonprofit’s operations at 20652 Laguna Canyon Road. “Here’s a guy whose willingness to help his community is well-known,” said Dr. Korey Jorgensen, Laguna Food Pantry board president.
Property Officer Honored
Debbie Heninger, the Laguna Beach Police Department’s property officer, was selected as the county’s property officer of the year by the California Association for Property and Evidence, City Manager John Pietig said in a statement.
Local Named to Hotel Laguna Post
When Danny Scher first moved to Laguna Beach in 1979, Benny the Bum’s Diner and the Ivy House were competitors of Hotel Laguna’s restaurant. Now, 36 years later, Hotel Laguna’s restaurant still thrives with Scher in the newly promoted position of food and beverage director.
Scher joined the hotel as restaurant manager in 2013 after a three-year leave from the restaurant industry to aid his aging grandparents. He’s delighted to return to the bustle, especially at one of the last, family-run businesses in town.
“I love the old-time Laguna, where families are so committed to creating these experiences for locals and visitors,” says Scher, who previously worked as a server at 230 Forest, a bartender and assistant manager at the Saloon and bar manager at Sun Dried Tomato.
He works directly with Hotel Laguna’s General Manager Stefan Andersen and Executive Chef Robert Hines.
Veteran Writer to Lead Virtual Book Club
Laguna local David Gardner, an author, journalist and literary consultant, has been named Book Club executive director of NoteStream, a mobile learning application.
The application enables users to find and follow long-form articles and content on their mobile devices. Gardner will oversee the virtual club’s serializations and member content, which will include discussions and contests.
He will also work with nonprofit groups to create NoteStream content based on stories of individuals.
