Indy photo contributor Mitch Ridder took first place in the city’s “My Laguna” photo contest in the adult category.

Second and third place went to Allard van der Graaf and Cheyne Walls, respectively. In the youth category, winners were Charlie Dickerson, Chloe Mansour and Deja Whitney.

The contest is intended to provide high-quality photographs for the city’s new website. Photographer Tom Lamb served as juror and reviewed 159 submissions from 63 photographers. She the winning images on the city’s website:

Parents of pre-school age to fifth graders can register their children for United Methodists Church’s free vacation bible school.

The week-long session 9 a.m.-12 p.m. from July 6-10 takes place at the church, 21632 Wesley Dr .

Church Awarded for Sustainable Gardens

The Orange County Interfaith Coalition last month awarded Neighborhood Congregational Church in Laguna Beach recipient of its Steward of Creation Award for the Environment last month.

Church members renovated the church grounds in 2012 in partnership with Transition Laguna, Laguna Beach County Water District and local landscape architect Christian Macke. Lawn areas were replaced with drought tolerant plants, fruit trees, vegetables and herbs and rain barrels were installed.

Church chef teams use the produce to feed 60-80 homeless people Monday nights at the Alternative Sleeping Location on Laguna Canyon Road.

 

 

 

Hit a Birdie for Bluebird Branch

The 15th annual Bob Margolis Rock N’ Roll golf tournament will take place Monday, July 13, to benefit the Boys & Girls Club’s Bluebird branch.

With over 130 golfers, the tournament raises approximately $14,000 yearly. The event, hosted by the Laguna Hackers, will include a golf tournament, silent auction, raffle and dinner.

Chamber Mixes Makes a Splash

The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce’s summer mixer takes place Thursday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Surf & Sand Resort.

Sample bites, a buffet, beer and wine and raffle prizes from the lofty Pelican Room.   Valet parking is available at the special rate of $6 or hop a trolley to 1555 S. Coast Highway. Bullying Class Offered On-line

Cal State Fullerton is offering a month-long on-line course for teachers, school administrators and staff to gain practical tools to recognize and effectively address the dynamics of bullying.

Beginning on July 13, Understanding and Addressing LGBT and Gender-Based Bullying addresses the issues of how gender identity and perceived gender identity, along with sexual orientation and perceived sexual orientation, play a significant role in most cases of bullying.
