Police to Deploy More Checkpoints

Laguna Beach’s police department received a $33,199.00 grant for an anti-DUI program aimed at preventing roadway deaths and injuries from the state Office of Traffic Safety.

The grant will target impaired driving offenders as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving. Crashes involving alcohol have been shown to drop by up to 20 percent when well- publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough, Lieutenant Jeff Calvert said in a statement.
