It’s gratifying that the ‘…advocates’ released a map on which is indicated the ‘Potential Acquisition Opportunity Areas’ in dark green (“Open Space Advocates Complete a First Hurdle,” Sept. 9). That a relative scale is not included is telling since many of the ‘….Opportunity Areas’ are massive; real acreage not just the lot at the end of the street.
Opportunity indeed, for the owners of these albatross properties. But no opportunity for the city of Laguna Beach as they are withdrawn from the tax roles and given to the city for maintenance.
Of course, knowing who owned the acreage, which was about to be saved would allay some fear. But without that knowledge, can you say, “boondoggle?”
