Prepare for the Unexpected

September is National Preparedness Month and first responders are encouraging residents to prepare for natural disasters.

Residents are encouraged to sign up to both AlertOC, Orange County’s regional mass notification system, available at www.alertoc.com, and Nixle, the city’s own community notification system, available from lagunabeachcity.net. Both platforms will provide residents with cell phone, landlines and internet service with timely notifications about situations that may affect them.

Residents are also encouraged to prepare an emergency kit, containing food, water, and supplies that last for at least 72 hours.

Finally, residents can attend a community emergency response team (CERT) class, which covers topics such as emergency preparedness, disaster medical operations, fire suppression, and more. Registration is available on the city’s website.
