The Exile/Main Street Oktoberfest Skimboarding Contest will be held on Oct. 6 and 7 around the slopes directly south of Balboa Pier in Newport Beach.
The event will host an international line-up of professional and amateur skimboarders, including many from Laguna Beach. Over 150 competitors ages 4 and up are expected to compete.
The contest is the final stop on the United Skim Tour and the results often determine the world champion. Last year, Laguna native Sam Stinnett won both the contest and the 2011 tour. He returns for the second consecutive year to defend his crown.
The rest of the top skimboarders in the world will be on hand to compete for prize money and tour points in the critical end of season event.
The forecast looks promising with a mix of NW and South swells lining up in the weeks to come, including a well overhead swell leading into the contest weekend.
Organizers expect competitors from Brazil, Taiwan, Japan and Australia to attend the event, co-organized by local companies Exile Skimboards and Main Street Surf Shop.
