The public is invited to attend a special school board session at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, to provide input about the desired characteristics of a new superintendent.

Kathy Kessler, a retired superintendent of the Huntington Beach City School District, will lead the discussion.

The school board next month intends to request proposals from search firms, who will be expected to also solicit community feedback as part of the search.

In June of this year, the current superintendent, Sherine Smith, announced she will retire next June. A new hire is expected in spring of 2016
