On Monday, April 22, the installation “Nine Billion” by artist Douglas Turner will be removed from the red telephone booth on Forest Avenue, concluding its two-year exhibition. The telephone booth will be cleaned and repainted in preparation for a new temporary installation, “Super Hero Changing Station” by local artist Robert Holton, which will be put in on Friday, April 26. This program is funded by the lodging establishments and the City of Laguna Beach

 

 

Students Offer World-Class Stage Production

A partnership between Laguna Playhouse and the Anaheim Union High School District enables students of AUHSD, taught by the Playhouse’s education staff, to present a performance of “The Giver” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Cook Auditorium at Anaheim High School, 811 W. No Square Begins Auditions for ‘Bugsy Malone’

Singers, actors, dancers and tappers ages six to 18 are invited to try out for a part in ‘Bugsy Malone,’ a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the gangster films of the roaring twenties. The slapstick musical comedy was created to be cast entirely with young people. Ella Wyatt will direct the No Square production, with music direction by Susan Thoren, choreography by Rylee Bullington and costumes designed by Brigitte Harper. Music and lyrics are by Paul Williams based on a book by Alan Parker.

Rehearsalsbegin around May 13, and will be late afternoon, early evening or weekends until school is out. After school is out, rehearsals will be during morning-afternoon hours.

Performances will be onFridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. July 12, 13, 19, 20 and Sundays July 14, 21 at 2 p.m.

The Guilds of Segerstrom Center Raise Funds

Two fundraising events benefitting the Segerstrom Center were held recently. On March 16, The Guilds held its annual All-Guilds Celebrating the Arts event with “Springtime in Provence” at the Balboa Bay Club, and on April 6, the Beverly Sills Chapter of The Guildsheld its annual fashion show and luncheon, “Over the Rainbow.” Together they raised more than $300,000 to support the Center’s many education and community engagement programs.

The Guilds honored Dee and Larry Higby for their many years of support and encouragement to The Guilds and the Center. Sandy Bassreceived the annual Guilds Inspiration Award in recognition of her exemplary service and zest for volunteerism.

The next Guilds fundraiser will be the annual West County area Guild’s “Une Affaire Internationale” on May 8 at the Duck Club in Irvine. For information about the guilds, call 714-556-2122.
