Report Card on Water Gets Failing Grade

A flurry of negative comments from a few outraged Laguna Beach protectionists regarding the annual ocean pollution report card by Heal The Bay received some coverage by local media recently. My NGO, Clean Water Now, has also been openly critical in media of this non-profit’s beach health and safety rating system for over 15 years.

Every time this report comes out, I’ve posted the same detailed information, the inherent flaws and glaring deficiencies that our locals are now emphasizing in comment sections and op-ed columns. The false portrayal of the report card’s results provoke pollyanna pictures from those who promote year round destination visitations.

A feature length column that I wrote and posted online five years ago I believe pretty much covers the topic in a depth that locals weren’t allowed. Yes, it’s a little windy but I hope that once read and digested as a public education tutorial, those not listening to our ocean tribes will grasp one simple fact: HTB’s Report Card is not revealing the entire truth about ocean water quality testing or monitoring results: http://www.salem-news.com/articles/may312013/heal-bay-scam-rb.php
