Laguna Beach High School alumni and South Coast Repertory Theater veteran Erika Whalen returns to her home school to choreograph drama students in Aladdin, Nov. 4-Nov. 13.

Aladdin marks the fourth year that Whalen has worked for the high school and midde school theater instructor Mark Dressler, her former teacher as well. Whalen will also choreograph a musical at Thurston in February.

Whalen, who won awards for performances in high school productions, went on major in theater, film, and television at UCLA. Besides SCR, her credits include “The Boston Court” and The Actors Co-op, and television’s “Criminal Minds.”

When she’s not teaching in her hometown, she can be found at SCR portraying Belle in this year’s 32nd annual production of “A Christmas Carol,” and Lucille in “Junie B.: Jingle Bells, Batman Smells,” part of SCR’s Theater for Young Audiences series. The shows run from Nov. 26 to Dec. 24, and Nov. 4 to Nov. 20, respectively.
