Richard (Dick) Loomis, age 84, of Laguna Beach, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 26, 1931, to Dale and Margaret Loomis, Dick graduated from Withrow High School and Ohio Mechanics Institute, both in Cincinnati. During the Korean War, Loomis proudly served in the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees). In the mid-‘60s, he moved west, fell in love with California and made Laguna Beach his permanent home. Loomis met his wife, Beate, on the beach in Laguna and they eventually welcomed daughters Denise and Jennifer.

Loomis worked very hard as a general contractor in the area, specializing in home remodeling and new residences. He was an active member of the Rotary Club for many years and took pride in giving back to his community. Loomis’ hobbies included tennis, travel, food and wine and spending time with his family, particularly his two granddaughters. Loomis will always be remembered for his sharp wit, infectious laugh and warm spirit.

He is survived by his wife Beate Loomis; daughters Jennifer Loomis and Denise Loomis Westerberg and son in law Daniel Westerberg; granddaughters Danielle Ducharme and Danica Westerberg; sister MaryLou Ranieri ; and seven nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, March 4, at 3 p.m. at the Laguna Presbyterian Church in Laguna Beach, Calif.

The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo for their excellent care and kind bedside manner.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friendship Shelter in Laguna Beach (friendshipsshelter.org).
