After battling cancer for over nine years, Robert “Bob” Powell, 78, passed away quietly on Friday, June 17, 2011, surrounded by family.
A devoted husband and father, he leaves his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; his daughter Shelley; son-in-law, Neil; grandchildren Ian and Lance, and many close mates.
Born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, the son of Percival and Kathleen Powell, he developed a passion for sports (Aussie Rules Footie, tennis, and golf) and traveling the world. During his travels to Canada and the United States in 1957 Powell met his future wife Dorothy. They enjoyed corresponding long-distance for two years before Powell returned to the states to marry her in 1960.
A member of the Australian Society of Accountants, Powell’s career spanned over 38 years. Known for his integrity, Powell spent his career utilizing his business acumen to increase profits and provide financial security for the companies with which he worked. During retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandson’s sporting activities and spending time with family and friends.
Powell was preceded in death by his siblings Hugh Powell and Margaret Adkins; and is fondly remembered by family members throughout Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
Memorial services will be held Aug. 10, 2011 at La Canada Presbyterian Church.
